LABOUR DEMAND ACTION TO END "NATIONAL SCANDAL" IN OUR CLASSROOMS.

A generation of Scottish teachers is being driven into exile, forced to
seek work in Australia and Canada, because of the SNP's failure to meet its
manifesto commitment to reduce class sizes.

Union leaders are warning that as many as 200 teachers are chasing every
job in Scottish classrooms - a situation they describe as "getting to the
stage of being a national scandal".

Scottish Labour Education spokesperson, Mary Mulligan said:

"After just over a year of Government, teachers are now saying the SNP have
caused a "national scandal" in our classrooms. We knew that Alex Salmond
had broken his manifesto commitment to reduce class sizes, but week by week
we are seeing the teaching profession let down by this SNP government of
broken promises.

"Today, we learn that some teachers are being forced abroad in search of
work. It is little wonder when teachers are forced to work in packed
classrooms and up to 200 teachers chase every new job.

"The SNP must act to keep our brightest graduates in Scotland. Education
Secretary Fiona Hyslop is starting to look like the SNP's class clown and,
if she doesn't stop this brain drain, parents will be giving her an 'F' on
her report card.

"Teachers and children deserve a government that invests properly in our
schools and delivers on its promises."
