Margaret kicks off campaign

“Never let people of the East End down”

Labour candidate Margaret Curran started campaigning in ernest for the by-election today. She spoke to local party members and activists from a soapbox at a campaign streetstall on Shettleston Road.

Speaking just afterward, she said:

“The campaign starts right here. We will be fighting for every vote because I’m in politics to fight against poverty and to stand up for the people of the East End. The SNP offer nothing for this area.

“Labour has begun the regeneration of the East End, creating jobs for local people. But the work goes on because we want action on crime, decent jobs, a fair price for food and fuel and to give young people here the best start in life.

“The SNP candidate has said he’s in politics for one reason only – to break up the UK. But I make this pledge to you: I will never put dogma before the needs of ordinary people and families here in Glasgow. I will never let the people of the East End down.”

Margaret then visited shops and cafes on Shettleston Road and went campaigning with local activists in a nearby housing complex.
