Margaret: I will never talk the East End down

Margaret Curran visits local hi-tech employer that shows East End is better with Labour

Margaret Curran, Labour's Candidate for Glasgow East, today put jobs centre stage today as she tackles head on those who are talking the East End down during this by-election.

Speaking after her visit to Walker Precision Engineering, a local hi-tech firm where she met employees and modern apprentices, Margaret said:

"It is great to be at Walker Precision Engineering today speaking to people who, like me, are contributing to the East End rather than talking it down.

"The Tories and the hardline nationalists are in collusion with some sections of the media to make people believe that the investment Labour has made in the East End in the last decade hasn't made a difference, when it has.

"Today I am visiting yet another concrete example of how they are wrong and totally out of touch with people in the East End.

"Walkers' should be applauded because it employs seven young apprentices. I want to see more of them in Glasgow to help Eastenders to get the skills they need. I oppose SNP cuts to apprenticeships and am one hundred percent behind the Labour council's plan to offer an apprenticeship to every school leaver in Glasgow.

"I am the only candidate who will fight for the East End and stand up to those talking down it down."

Steven Purcell, Labour Leader of Glasgow City Council, supported Margaret in her attacks on those who are bad mouthing the East End. He said:

"I'm proud of Glasgow and hate to hear the SNP and some parts of the media talking it down. Labour are investing in Glasgow, particularly in new jobs and skills to build up the area. The Labour-run City Council is leading the way on this by guaranteeing all suitable qualified school leavers an apprenticeship within the City."
